Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS): New Version 4.0 Released

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 03, 2014 The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) International Working Group is announcing today Version 4.0 of the worldwide recognized standard for the processing of textiles made from at least 70 percent (label grade “made with organic”), or 95 percent (label grade “organic”) certified organic natural fibers. GOTS’ core provisions such as the 70 percent minimum content of certified organic fibers, the general bans on the use of substances from disputed techniques such as genetic engineering and nanotechnology, as well as carcinogenic substances, have been maintained. There are modified rules on permissible conventional ‘additional fiber materials’: these now may consist of regenerated, respective synthetic fibers – up to 30 percent – provided they are environmentally-improved and certified. For regenerated fibers this means that the raw material must be from certified organic production, sustainable forestry management, or be certified recycled. For synthetic fibers, the raw material must be recycled and also certified according to recognized standards. “According to current knowledge through environmental impact assessments, the previous focus on natural fibers for the permissible conventional ‘additional fiber materials’ (up to maximum of 30 percent) is no longer justifiable. In the future, textile manufacturers will have a…

Bangladesh on Afghanistan’s Chessboard

We all bleed when we remember the loss of 1971 war with India when our Eastern part was dislocated and became Bangladesh. From that shameful era when our 90000 soldiers were taken as Prisoners of War by India and then in 1974 whenIndia tested its first Nuclear Bomb, Pakistanis came a long way ahead leaving all the painful memories behind and regrouped as one of the big military power of the region.   Since long, there have been a general understanding that whatever happened in 1971 it had to happen one day or another. Many also think that Bangladesh’s independence did not hurt Pakistan much as that part was not defendable in any full scale war. I do not agree to both the above notions. Countries that have strong governing system can protect their Islands and other installations that are thousands of miles away from their main territory, so why can’t we accept that it was our failure of governance that led Bangladesh dislocate. Even if anybody thinks that leaving Bangladesh issue behind would be a better choice and some even take a step further in finding consolation by saying that whatever happened in the past, now Bangladesh is a Muslim country and the member of Organization of Islamic…
